It seems it’s no myth that people seriously consider their careers during the Christmas and the New Year period. In a study commissioned by the team here at Network Marketing, the number of people actively looking for jobs in the marketing and digital sectors (ie searching online for vacancies) is 34% higher during the period 1st January 2015 to 6th January 2015 compared to a similar time period in June. The peak days for job searching were unsurprisingly Monday 5th January and Tuesday 6th January although job seeker numbers increased dramatically on the 2nd January – perhaps demonstrating that those New Years’ resolutions were actually being followed through, at least in the short term. What was surprising was the number of people actively searching on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. Compared to an average day the job seeker numbers were up 12% perhaps suggesting that confidence is also increasing in the market. But are there the opportunities for people to apply to? From analysis of our data, year on year vacancies in the marketing and digital sectors in the UK have increased 16% with a specific increase in roles in the digital space of 32%. All in all this is good news for candidates and the market in general. Whilst the economy continues to grow but more importantly confidence returns to the marketing and digital sectors, we expect to see both agency and client-side opportunities increasing this year with the availability of candidates decreasing as the general skills shortage in the UK economy continues. Wish would like to wish all of our clients, candidates and team a successful 2015.
