The last few years have seen some major headlines. The Germans lifted the 2014 Brazilian World Cup, The Europeans retained the Ryder Cup, and Network Marketing recruited their Graduate intake. However, it’s the ‘selfie’ that seems to have grabbed the attention of people all round the world, becoming nothing short of an overnight phenomenon. Over the last couple of years, the phenomenon has not just captured social media but also the mainstream. Both your ‘regular Joe’ and celebrities alike have taken to the selfie like a duck out of water. Some celebrities put the selfie to good use by raising money for Cancer Research by taking part in a ‘No Make Up Selfie’. The campaign raised over £8 million!
Whilst others such as comedian Ricky Gervais bared warts n’ all selfies just for entertainment!
Others just used it as an excuse to let off some steam and sellotape their own faces…
Ellen's Oscar selfie became the most retweeted photo of all time with over 2 million retweets before the ceremony had even ended!
The meteoric rise of the selfie has led to Apps such as Snapchat, Whatsapp and Instagram to allow users to share the selfies with people across the world. Owners of Snapchat were previously offered £3bn by Facebook to purchase the app.
Snapchat has around 100 million monthly users and sees 400 million snaps sent between users each day!
Following the development of apps such as Snapchat, designers came up with the ultimate selfie tool. Something even Dragons Den would have been proud of… The ‘Selfie Stick’.
Even those who didn’t own one wanted to get involved!
Selfie Snapstats London is reportedly the selfie capital of the world, beating New York to claim the prestigious title. According to Samsung, selfies make up 30% of photographs taken by 18-24 year olds. In a survey carried out on adults in the UK, 51% admitted to have taken a selfie. 48% then admitted to sharing these on a social media site.
My favourite selfie had to be that taken by NASA astronaut Mike Hopkins whilst in space… This selfie is out of this world!
With the ‘Selfie’ becoming the in trend, it felt only right that we here at Network Marketing signed off our 2014 with our very own Christmas Selfie.
