The upsides of working from home with three school-age daughters!

The modern workplace has changed significantly in recent years, with remote work becoming increasingly prevalent. This transformation has opened up new possibilities for parents, providing them with the flexibility to balance their professional and personal lives more effectively. As a father of three school-age daughters, I have experienced first-hand the immense benefits of homeworking. Recruitment is notorious for long hours and for the best part of 20 years I’d leave the house at 6.30am and get home at about 7.30pm. In this blog post, I’ll share my insights on how remote work has positively impacted my life as a dad, enabling me to enjoy more time with my girls while maintaining a fulfilling career.

One of the most significant advantages of homeworking for a dad with three school-age daughters is the substantial increase in family time. By eliminating the daily commute and office-bound routine, I have been able to spend more quality moments with my girls. Whether it's helping them with their homework, engaging in creative activities, or simply being present during their after-school hours, being physically present at home has fostered deeper connections and stronger bonds within our family.

Homeworking has empowered me to actively participate in my daughters' school lives. I can now attend school events, parent-teacher meetings, and extracurricular activities without worrying about conflicting work schedules or missing out on important moments. This active involvement has not only provided me with a deeper understanding of their academic progress but has also helped me build relationships with their teachers and classmates, fostering a supportive learning environment for my girls.

As a working dad, being able to manage personal commitments alongside professional responsibilities is crucial. Homeworking has granted me the flexibility to attend doctor's appointments, parent-teacher conferences, and various other events without the stress of requesting time off or rearranging work schedules. The ability to adapt my work hours to accommodate unforeseen circumstances or family needs has greatly reduced the pressure and allowed me to be a more present and engaged father.

By working remotely, I have the opportunity to set a positive example of work-life balance for my daughters. They witness first-hand how I juggle work commitments with family responsibilities, demonstrating the importance of prioritising both aspects of life. Hopefully this’ll help them to develop a healthy approach to their future careers, understanding the significance of dedicating time to personal and family pursuits alongside professional endeavours.

Commuting to work can be stressful and time-consuming, leaving little energy for family interactions. Homeworking has eliminated the daily rush hour traffic, allowing me to begin each day with a calm and focused mindset. The reduction in stress associated with commuting has contributed to increased productivity, improved well-being, and a happier family environment. Additionally, the saved time and energy can be invested in activities that matter most to my daughters and me.

Homeworking as a Dad of three school-age daughters has been an incredible change, offering me the opportunity to nurture my professional growth while actively participating in their lives. Perhaps most importantly it’s enabled a much more even split of parenting duties between me and my wife.
